AUS POSTCODE LOCATOR PRO allows you to perform proximity based searches using Australian postcodes. Included class functions allow you to perform the following tasks:
- Find points of interest that fall within a certain radius of a target postcode

- Find postcodes that fall within a certain radius of a target postcode
- Find the distance between two postcodes
- Find the distance between two longitude and latitude values
The class comes with a full AUSTRALIAN postcode database (SQL and CSV format) with coordinates (longitude, latitude) - the only such database available on the web. AUS POSTCODE LOCATOR PRO can be utilised in a wide range of projects that draw upon proximity-based searches within Australia. AUS POSTCODE LOCATOR PRO comes with PHP, ASP, and Java classes to allow you to utilise this powerful database in your choice of programming language.

Does it include place names for each postcode?
No, the database contains only post codes and their longitude/latitude values. For a placenames/suburbs database, please see our Aus Suburb Database.
Do I need some PHP/ASP/Java/SQL knowledge to integrate it in my Website?
Yes, knowledge of PHP/ASP/Java and SQL knowledge is required. The classes are designed for web deveopers wishing to add proximity and distance-based calculations using postcodes to their client's website.
Are the files commented?
Yes, all files are well commented and not encrypted. You will get all lines of code which you can change or amend to match your site requirements and design.
Are the scripts available in any other programming language?
The classes are written in PHP and translated to ASP and Java. They can be easily ported to other languages by the purchaser.
Is a New Zealand version available?
The New Zealand postcode system is different to Australia - often assigning more than one postcode to individual suburbs. For this reason it is not able to be used for approximating latitude and longitude values. How accurate is the database and how often is it updated?
The database is generated using the Australia Post postcode CSV using a sequence of proprietory scripts written by DreamscapeMedia. Google Maps and two other reputable sources are used in the geocoding process. Each suburb belonging to a particular postcode is given a longitude and latitude value. The values are then averaged to find the centroid of each postcode where accurate postcode centroid data cannot be retrieved.
The Australia Post database contains 16,914 lines, from which 3,315 unique postcodes are drawn. The AUS POSTCODE LOCATOR database contains all of these postcodes with accurate postcode centroids values for each.
The database is reviewed every six months. Purchasers are notified of updates to the database via email and can purchase an update for $55 incl GST.
Please note that discretion should be used when considering to use postcodes to calculate nearby points of interest. 99% of Australia's population live in locations where postcodes provide an accurate method of plotting their geographic location, however a handful of postcodes in rural Australia can span hundreds of kilometers, and can not be relied upon to calculate nearby points of interest. What are the license restrictions of this product?
You may use this product in any project you or your business is directly involved with. You may not redistribute this product or a modified version of it. Your implementation of the product must not allow it's latitude and longitude values to be displayed on-screen or within accessible source code. A technique to avoid this is to round the latitude and longitude values to two or three decimal points before display. View the license agreement before purchasing.
